A special thanks to Ron and Sharon Mouser as they invited me to shoot from the bucket of Lubbock's Ladder Truck #1 at the Cowboy Symposium in 2018.
From a workshop led by Nat Coalson. The original image was a bit soft, and lacked the contrast needed to print in color. Converting to black & white helped with the contrast, and for whatever reason, the softness seems more natural in the conversion.
I suppose we all have captures that are 'close' but not exactly what we think they should be. Using this image as an example, does the bridge distract? Is the foreground distracting or out of perspective? Did the arriving rainstorm create a colorcast as it changed the light falling on the scene? Maybe the most important question is simply, does it matter, if the overall print is pleasing?
Maybe the lesson in this image simply points out how subjective many of our captures are as we pursue the challenge to preserve the memories of a lifetime.
